These days won't be as often as other types of events, but are still an incredibly important part of caring for the reserve. At the end of most clean-ups we will do an audit to see exactly what we have pulled out, and hopefully see a change in the amount of rubbish dumped in Jutland Reserve. Hopefully, over time, clean-ups will become unnecessary.

Tree plantings are important for the reserve because the current plants are all young, with no older generation bush. While many plants (such as Kawakawa) are sprouting by themselves easily, the reserve could use some more variation in the species.

Our Events

Over the years to come, there will be multiple days for planting, removing rubbish and weeding. We would love for the community to join us at these events and many will include a free sausage sizzle to thank our volunteers.

Unfortunately not all plants are good for the reserve, and there are many that can be threats to both other plants and animals. As well as clearing out weeds at the beginning, weed maintenance will be needed after the initial planting, particularly to protect the newly planted trees.

An ambitious project to restore an important slice of coastal forest to it's former glory with the involvement of the local community; to bring native wildlife back to the doorstep of Hauraki residents.
